: a law in physics: in the refraction of radiation at the interface between two isotropic media the incident ray and the corresponding refracted ray are coplanar with the refracting surface at the point of incidence and the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence to the sine of the angle of refraction is equal to the index of refraction
